Description

Course Overview:
This 8.5 CE course introduces an integrated approach to restore and maximize the human movement system through IASTM, kinesiology taping, and elastic resistance modalities.

Scrape, Tape, and Move is a comprehensive and engaging full-day continuing education course that provides a scientific and practical method that introduces an integrated approach to restoring and maximizing the human movement system. Participation in this workshop will give the healthcare provider a better background and knowledge in not only analyzing the functional aspect of human movement, but also in identifying impairments to the human movement system and recognizing the pathomechanical impairments that will most benefit from rehabilitative strategies.

The participants will learn how to perform a quick assessment of movement and once dysfunction is identified, differentiate a mobility restriction into either a joint mobility dysfunction vs. a tissue extensibility dysfunction. This course will cover the theory and intervention strategies for identifying soft tissue restrictions utilizing Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) techniques. The participants with be shown techniques and receive hands on instruction to help restore normal joint mobility and tissue extensibility with the goal being to improve the dysfunctional movement pattern. As mobility is restored, postural and mobility reinforcement techniques such as kinesiology taping will be covered and practiced. Following this, the emphasis will shift to designing exercise progressions in order to restore and advance functional movement patterns. A simple approach based upon evidence based clinical reasoning utilizing neurodevelopmental theories of human movement will be used to formulate exercise progressions.

Course Objectives
• Describe and explain the importance of identifying dysfunctional movement patterns in patients/ clients with functional limitations.
• Analyze, assess, interpret, and correctly identify typical movement pattern dysfunctions.
• Coordinate the movement assessment information to the initial therapeutic exercise strategy in order to formulate, describe, and defend the use of the most appropriate treatment intervention into the rehab program to normalize dysfunctional movement.
• Describe and explain how to differentiate between a joint mobility dysfunction versus a tissue extensibility dysfunction.
• Choose and defend the appropriate IASTM treatment for a variety of pathologies including but not limited to neural muscular restrictions, fascia restrictions, joint stiffness, scar adhesions, and pain limited movement loss.
• Analyze and differentiate between normal and abnormal soft tissue of the extremities and trunk using IASTM tools based on the patient response and tissue response through the assessment scanning strokes.
• Describe and explain the scientific basis of kinesiology taping.
• Evaluate, recognize, and decide when kinesiology taping is indicated and who will benefit.
• Demonstrate, defend and effectively apply a number of basic kinesiology taping techniques without assistance.
• Describe and explain the basic science of elastic resistance and provide the rationale for the use of the neurodevelopment 4 x 4 approach to exercise planning and progression.
• Identify and integrate the appropriate elastic resistance techniques within the neurodevelopmental 4 x 4 approach to exercise training.
• Evaluate the intervention effectiveness by monitoring the changes in the case dysfunction and impairment as seen on the movement re-evaluation in order to guide the therapeutic exercise progression.

Scrape
Restoring movement starts with Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) using the array of products from HawkGrips. These products are designed to create soft tissue mobility at the skin, superficial fascia, and muscle/tendon layers. With a variety of tools and applications for any part of the body, IASTM amplifies tissue response and dysfunction for potentially faster results. Scrape, Tape, and Move teaches you everything you need to know for proper IASTM application and use.

Tape
Recent studies show that tension in tape application is associated with favorable patient outcomes. TheraBand® Kinesiology Tape allows you to focus on patient outcomes with its non-latex, allergy tested, and water-resistant design. The tension created from the kinesiology taping can be a predictor of success and has an acute impact on pain reduction. Scrape, Tape, and Move focuses on teaching the science behind kinesiology taping and proper application techniques.

Move
Studies show that elastic resistance training is as effective if not better for patients than the traditional free weights and weight machines. Learn the top elastic exercise techniques without the hassle of handles, tying knots, or latex. TheraBand® CLXTM from Performance Health has a patented consecutive loop design that helps eliminate the hassles of traditional elastic bands and enables better success.
