No matter if your splinting skills are rookie or rockstar, all occupational therapists are faced with multiple clinical decisions throughout the process, like whether to use a static, static progressive or dynamic splint, or choosing to mobilize, immobilize, transmit force, position and/or correct movement. However, with almost a dozen manufacturers and hundreds of product variations, deciding on which splinting materials to use can be the most intimidating decision of all. Instead of giving up and grabbing whatever is in your clinic, we’ve created a series of webinars throughout the summer to help you better understand your splinting options to create better clinical outcomes.
Learn the Basics of Splinting Fabrication with these Free Webinars
Our three-part webinar series will demystify splinting by walking you through the physical properties and handling characteristics of a variety of splinting materials and their applications. Resident splinting expert Bruce Curtis, OT will identify diagnostic and therapist preferences, address why there are so many materials to choose from and help make it easier for you to choose the best material based on the patient you’re treating and how they present.
Curtis is an occupational therapy professional with over 30 years of experience in the rehabilitation field. During his early years as a therapist, he worked in a variety of clinical settings including acute, long term care, work reconditioning, driver training and orthopedics. Currently a Product Manager for the Splinting Product Category at Performance Health, Bruce is a sought after speaker and presenter of classes and workshops for local, regional and national conferences.
